The Story.
Kim & Corey independently attended Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo. There they navigated the streets of Hathway, the countless events and adventures of Greek life, the group projects of the Orfalea College of Business, the corners of Bull’s Tavern, and all the delis of SLO. All the while, never (knowingly) crossing paths, but making countless mutual friends during the four great years they spent on the Central Coast.
(The only known incident of them potentially being in close proximity at the same time before 2019 was in a stolen limo, at a DSP x Sigma Kappa wedding in their early twenties post-college, with some of the aforementioned mutual friends. We can’t be sure this is actual evidence, but we think Corey is sitting behind Zach -left of Kim- and is reflected in the overhead mirror with a black band on his wrist.)
A few years after limo-gate, Kim’s friends, Lauren & Matt Jackson and Eric Jaso (who was also Corey’s college roommate), made their way to Chicago for a long weekend and met up with Corey for a Cubs game (Go Cubs Gooo!). Upon returning home, all three of them told Kim that they had found the guy she was meant to be with. While he was living in Chicago at the moment, they said he was planning to move back to California some day…. Not thinking much of it, Kim went about life in San Francisco with the Cal Poly crew, Friendship Club, Boyz Juice, Airfam, SGC, Bear Den & CFS crew, because a girl couldn’t wait on “some day.”
A few years after that, “some day” finally came when Lauren and Matt invited Kim to their favorite event of the year - the annual FarNiente wine pick-up-party in Napa. Eric, also a FarNiente member, invited Corey as his guest to the pick-up-party as well, since he had recently moved back to California..… a classic setup.
While Kim knew this was a setup, Corey was oblivious. This resulted in Kim being overly enthusiastic and asking Corey too many questions, and Corey being extra quiet, wondering why this girl he just met was so chatty. After settling into several glasses of FarNiente’s finest Cabernets, Corey’s booming laugh filled the entire Napa valley and the ice was officially broken. They got to talking and laughing the rest of the day. They innocently posed for this photo that made it’s way to Instagram - which immediately sparked social media speculations amongst the Cal Poly rumor mill.
The rest of this slow-burn love story is history, but includes raccoons, lots of wine, laughs, urban snacking, a global pandemic, many packed weekend-bags to see each other across towns, card games, bake-offs, girl talk, concerts, Ted Lasso & How I Met Your Mother & Suits marathons, coastal hikes, dance parties, travels abroad, Big Sur glamping trips, many kids’ birthday parties, a move to Oakland, a proposal, and lots family & friend time, with all of you.
This story is only beginning, but it’s been pretty wonderful so far. The Ravello chapter will be one to remember, so stay tuned, as you’re all part of the journey :)
